Van Remmen’s validated UV systems

Van Remmen’s CEN-EN validated UV systems for liquid disinfection are reliable, sustainable and cost-effective.

Food safety is a must for the food industry: to ensure public health, extend shelf life and prevent product failures or recalls. Producers need to be 100% certain that all liquids used are free from undesired microorganisms or chemical compounds. Van Remmen’s UV disinfection systems are independently validated, sustainable, cost-efficient and leave no aftertaste or create any waste-products.

In order to guarantee safe and reliable disinfection all systems in the ‘Validated’ series are tested and validated biodosimetrically. This means that a special strain of UV-resistant bacteria is introduced into the UV system; the Log-removal of the system is measured precisely and correlated to a measured amount of UV-light. This method of testing is usually done in major industrial disinfection systems where high reliability outweighs the extra costs. Van Remmen has the experience to offer validated security without substantial increases in product costs.

The system employs UV reactors designed for optimum water flow, with excellent longevity, that maintain high performance levels until the end of their life. This means fewer UV lamps are needed to be effective. Van Remmen UV systems have optimum UV-dosage distribution and efficient low-pressure UV lamps. The ballasts and software used for the lamps are developed in-house, resulting in one of the highest electrical efficiencies in the market. In combination with their UV reactor design this results in the lowest validated energy expenditure per volume treated (W/m³).

The disinfection systems are durable and easy to maintain. They are free of chemicals and broadly applicable for removal of bacteria – also bacteria that are resistant to chlorine, such as Cryptosporidium. UV combines with other disinfection approaches such as chlorine, ozone, and filtration.

The units have been scientifically validated to the CEN-EN 14897 standard: the European norm for UV validation and certification. The UV units are KIWA ATA and WRAS approved.
