VanDrie Group: global leader in veal and built on the best family traditions

The Dutch-owned VanDrie Group has become the world market leader in veal by building a company on the foundation of family values. In the early ‘60s, founder Jan van Drie bought his first newborn calf for fattening. Today, with more than 25 companies, the group is the number one supplier of veal and calf milk globally.

Under the watchful ‘eye’ of Safety Guard, the group’s unique, integrated, chain-management system, approximately 1.4 million calves are processed each year, with over 95% exported all over the world. The VanDrie Group supplies approximately 28% of the European demand for veal.

Calves are raised in group housing, by VanDrie Group veal farmers, in spacious, light and airy stalls. They are fed calf milk supplemented with a generous amount of roughage, as the roughage significantly enhances the animals’ welfare.

The Foundation for Quality Guarantee of the Veal Sector (SKV) conducts regular, intensive checks at all of the VanDrie Group’s veal farms to monitor the calves’ health and the quality of their feed. The industry’s quality management system, Vitaal Kalf, forms the basis for the controls and, in combination with the VanDrie Group’s Safety Guard system, guarantees high-quality, safe, well-raised veal.
